Without knowing he was an Aussie you would know he was an Aussie simply because of the way he talks. I'll get my negative thoughts out of the way first: he repeats himself a lot and you are left feeling that he has very mixed feelings about Vettel. In some paragraphs he refers to him as Seb, Sebastian, and Vettel depending on which sentence you read, and after criticising him in one sentence he then goes on to praise him in the next sentence. It's quite annoying and detracts from the rest of the book which is quite excellent.Great insight into growing up in the middle of nowhere in Oz and wanting to become a Formula 1 driver. Great descriptions of driving - and crashing - racing cars, where you can almost feel you're in the car with him. Some great details about what people we think we "know" are really like, from Michael Schumacher, to Frank WIlliams and Patrick Head, to Bernie Ecclestone, and some especially funny stuff about Flavio Briatore. It seems that Helmut Marko and Christian Horner really are the sort of people that they are rumoured to be, namely a vindictive man and a hopless people pleaser. Very interesting to read things which explain what happened at certain races, where you found yourself asking "Why did he say/do that". Finally, it's a great love story, especially if you are a dog lover :-)All in all a must read.

Pikante Details aus dem "Innenleben" von Red Bull. Dort werden nicht alle eine Freude mit diesem Buch haben... Auch in der englischen Version leicht & spannend zu lesen.
Für einen leidenschaftlichen Formel 1 Fan wie mich eines der interessantesten Bücher überhaupt! Es ist nicht einer dieser etwas gestreckten Wikipedia-Artikel voller Lobhudeleien, wie man sie bei Biographien über Formel 1-Fahrer leider häufig findet, sondern eine Autobiographie, die mir sehr authentisch erscheint. Beim Bericht über seine Anfänge im Motorsport verschweigt Webber weder die Schwierigkeiten, die sich ihm in den Weg gestellt haben, noch die Fehler, die er innerhalb und außerhalb des Cockpits begangen hat. In seinen Anfangsjahren in der Formel 1 setzt sich das fort – dann folgt der Teil, den ich mit zwiespältigen Gefühlen gelesen habe: Seine Zeit bei Red Bull an der Seite von Sebastian Vettel. Ich war nie ein Fan von Mark Webber – ich bin Vettel-Fan und wer hat je den Teamkollegen des Lieblingsfahrers und damit dessen ersten Gegner gemocht? Webber beschreibt ohne Zurückhaltung sämtliche Benachteiligungen, die er seiner Ansicht nach bei Red Bull erfahren hat. Nachdem ich natürlich nicht weiß, wie es wirklich abgelaufen ist, nehme ich das als seine freie Meinung hin. Als ich das Buch gekauft habe, hatte ich die leise Befürchtung, Webber könnte sich damit als schlechter Verlierer outen – tut er aber nicht. Er räumt freimütig ein, dass Vettel trotz seiner Unerfahrenheit einfach das Quäntchen mehr von allem hatte, was es braucht, um Formel 1-Weltmeister zu werden. Neben sämtlichen mehr oder weniger bekannten Ereignissen auf der Strecke, erzählt er auch interessante, lustig oder nachdenkliche Anekdoten aus der Welt des Motorsports. Webber stellt die vielen Menschen vor, denen er auf seinem Weg begegnet ist, die ihm geholfen haben oder auch nicht, beschreibt seine Gefühle bei seinen größten Triumphen und schlimmsten Crashs und erzählt auch von seinem Privatleben. Der tiefempfundene Respekt vor seiner Lebensgefährtin Ann, die Trauer um seinen geliebten Hund, Heimweh, Zweifel und die Angst, die er bei den heftigsten Unfällen seiner Karriere empfunden hat, haben mich berührt und Webber in meinen Augen ein ganzes Stück sympathischer werden lassen, als er mir während seiner Zeit bei Red Bull erschienen ist. Das Einzige, was mich beim Lesen gestört hat, waren einige inhaltliche Fehler: Manche Randereignisse wurden kurzerhand in ein anderes Rennen oder gar eine andere Saison verlegt.Insgesamt kann ich das Buch für Formel 1 Fans uneingeschränkt empfehlen – schon allein die Beschreibung der Situation im Cockpit macht es hochinteressant! Wie es Leuten, die die Formel 1 eher am Rande verfolgen, mit diesem Buch gehen würde, kann ich nicht beurteilen.Bisher ist ‚Aussie Grit‘ nur auf Englisch erhältlich. Ich weiß nicht, ob und wann es eine Übersetzung geben wird. Als jemand, der selten englische Bücher liest, kann ich aber sagen, dass mir die Sprache keine Probleme beim Verständnis bereitet hat und ich zügig vorangekommen bin und in die Geschichte eintauchen konnte.
Super Buch. Wenn es das Buch auf Deutsch gibt würde ich es mir auch kaufen. Weiß jemand wann es das Buch auch auf Deutsch geben wird? Finde nichts dazu.
